Hearth Tax
Lady Day 1666 - March 25 - there are two Ords on Holy Island listed as paying - Mr Bartram Ord for two hearths and Mr Jno Ord for three hearths. Does that mean that John was living in a bigger house than his father. Of the 57 households listed, Lance Moore's house has six, William Watte and Lady Collingwood have four. and there are five people including John Ord with three. So we can assume that John Ord's home was one of the largest on the island. A full list of the Durham hearth tax (Holy Island was within the county of Durham at this time) can be found here
Thomas Ord marriage
T homas Ord marries Isabel Ord at Holy Trinity, Berwick on Tweed on January 23 1683/4. The entry in the marriage register simply reads "Thomas Ord & Isabell Ord". There are a few more details of this marriage within the Durham Calendar of Marriage Bonds and Allegations. The original marriage bond does not survive, but the entry in the calendar reads:
Jan 22 Ord, Thos, Barking, nau.
Ord, Isabel
Forster, Robt, Berwick
1683/4 Jane 23 Thomas Ord & Isabel Ord
Berwick on Tweed

Notes
1. Nau. = nauta = sailor. So this Thomas was a seafarer, merchant, Royal Navy, or both?
2. Is "Barking" Barking in Essex? The town had a large fishing fleet, but was upriver, and not on the coast. More likely it is the London parish of All Hallows, Barking (Barking for historical reasons). This is a Thames-side habitat and was the home of many sailors.
3. Robert Forster was the "bondsman", who provided surety. Is this a relative of Isabel Ord?
